POTA court asks govt to protect key witness

The POTA court, Jabalpur has directed the government of Uttar Pradesh to provide adequate security to deputy SP Ramshiromani Pandey, who is main witness in Raja Bhaiyya case.

The POTA court, Jabalpur has directed the government of Uttar Pradesh to provide adequate security to deputy SP Ramshiromani Pandey, who is main witness in Raja Bhaiyya case.

The court where former minister Raghuaj Pratap Singh and his father Udai Pratap Singh, are being tried for the POTA charges, has set a deadline for the government to give security to Pandey. It may be recalled that Pandey had conducted raids at the residence of Raja Bhaiyya in Kunda, Pratapgarh. Pandey in his application had feared attempt on his life and his family members.

Taking the note of written complaint, the court has directed SSP Jabalpur to provide security to him from Jabalpur to Allahabad. Besides, court also directed the special public prosecutor of the POTA Santhosh Yadav to take up the case with State Government and provide adequate security to Panday and his family members.

Panday had mentioned in his application dated March 25, 2006 that all the accused belong to the ruling party, therefore, State Government has instituted several inquires against me and my family members.

Besides, he and his family members were getting life threat.

It was stated in the application that the State Government in the affidavit submitted in the apex court had accepted the same fact. However, Panday and his family were provided security of ‘Y’ category.

Since, the case has been transferred to this court, Panday said his security guard’s salary was stopped. “My younger brother Seshamni Panday, who is deputy collector with State Government is also being harassed, Pandey alleged.
