Power surge at Delhi reception of Amit Shah’s son

Delhi’s power elite, including President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance minister Arun Jaitley, attended BJP president Amit Shah’s son’s wedding reception held in New Delhi on Sunday.

If Jay Shah’s wedding ceremony in Ahmedabad – held hours after the BJP’s rout in the Delhi assembly elections – was a low key affair, the reception certainly made up for it.

A lavish all-vegetarian spread was laid out on the manicured lawns of 9, Ashoka Road — the bungalow adjacent to the party headquarters.

Modi — who could not attend the wedding — spent well over half an hour at the reception in a separate enclosure made specifically for the President, PM and other dignitaries.

Besides Congress leader Rajeev Shukla and Trinamool Congress’ Dinesh Trivedi, other prominent Opposition leaders like SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar were present.

BJP leaders thronged the event – from party patriarch LK Advani to the controversial Sakshi Maharaj.

Chief ministers of BJP-led states also attended the event as did army chief Dalbir Singh and former BCCI chief N Srinivasan.

The event wreaked havoc on traffic in central Delhi, forcing road users to take several detours. htc
