Prachi Desai found Bollywood fame with Rock On. She has been part of other commercially successful films also, such as Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and Bol Bachchan. But the actor didn't begin her career with Bollywood. She burst on the scene as Bani Walia in a popular daily soap Kasamh Se which aired on Zee TV.

For her Bollywood stints, Prachi has garnered much appreciation. Taran Adarsh noted after watching her in Rock On in 2008: "Prachi Desai scores in her very first feature. She has a challenging role and footage-wise too, it's substantial. Prachi brings in a lot of freshness and poise. Plus, she's a competent actor."

The actress bagged the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. And Prachi Desai benefitted from this outing no end. She got several nominations and awards as debutante including the Filmfare Award. She also won the Anandalok Award as Best Actress (Hindi).

Prachi was then seen in Life Partner (2009), which failed at the box office but even here her acting was praised.

In July 2010, she appeared in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai with Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut. The film proved to be a big box office success and was also critically praised. "Prachi Desai is a bundle of talent who proves her mettle yet again. She's proficient in emotional scenes and sizzles in the BOBBY song-sequence." says Taran Adarsh.
