UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday visited Jharkhand to campaign for the July 19 poll. Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and Lok Jansakti Party (LJP) president Ram Vilas Paswan also joined him in canvassing.
Talking to reporters, Lalu Prasad said that Mukherjee would win with a huge margin. Paswan, whose party has no no legislator in Jharkhand, appealed to legislators to vote in favour of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate.
The RJD chief also met Congress party leaders and held meeting with his party legislators and leaders.
Mukherjee met Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren and All Jharkhand Student Union (AJSU) chief Sudesh Mahto. Both are alliance partners of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government in the state, but have yet to open their cards on who they will support for president.
He also met Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik president Babulal Marandi.
"We hope that JMM, JVM-P, AJSU and independent legislators will support Pranab da in the presidential poll," Congress spokesperson Shailesh Sinha told IANS.
BJP-backed candidate PA Sangma also had visited Ranchi Wednesday. After meeting Soren, he had expressed hope getting his party's support.
The BJP has appealed to its partners to vote in favour of Sangama.
