The 2011 Volkswagen Polo R Cup champion Vishnu Prasad will not participate in this year's Scirocco R Cup after opting to pursue further studies. As the reigning Polo R Cup champion, 18-year-old Prasad had won a paid drive from Volkswagen Motorsport to participate in the Europe-based series. But studies and a problem in finding enough sponsorship to cover some of the travel and accomodation meant that Pune's Oshan Kothadiya will take his place.
Kothadiya finished runner-up to Prasad in the Polo R Cup by just 12 points last year and was next in line for the Scirocco R Cup drive in the event of Prasad's inability to participate.
"It's a shame that Vishnu won't be taking part," Volkswagen Motorsport's India head Prithviraj Siddappa told HT. "But we have made provisions for him to take part in at least one round as a guest driver where we will fully take care of any costs that he would have to incur, including any damage suffered in the race."
Twenty three-year-old Kothadiya will make his Scirocco R Cup debut when the series kicks off at Hockenheim, Germany on April 28.
