ONGC and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) overwhelmed Engineers India and Hindustan Petroleum by nine wickets in the opening Super League ties of the 28th Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Inter Unit Cricket Tournament here on Thursday.
The meet has been organised by Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum.
Praveen Kumar, one of the key players in India's historic victory over Australia in the tri-series held Down Under, slammed a quickfire, unbeaten 50 to enable ONGC overhaul qualifiers EIL's modest total of 98 all out with plenty to spare at the RCF Ground in Chembur.
At the adjoining BPCL ground, a 42-ball 57 by Saurashtra batsman Cheteshwar Pujara led Indian Oil Corporation to a swift win over Hindustan Petroleum, who were all out for a paltry 79 after batting first.
EIL 98 all out in 23.2 overs (Virendra Sharma 54; Amit Bhandari 5-38) lost to ONGC 101 for 1 in 9 overs (Praveen Kumar 50 not out, Gagan Khoda 36 not out) by 9 wickets.
HPCL 79 all out in 36 overs (Anand Rajan 2-19, Murtuza Hussain 2-18, Amit Dani 2-10) lost to IOC 80 for 1 in 12 overs (Cheteshwar Pujara 57 not out) by 9 wickets.
