Easy ways to keep fruits and vegetables fresh for a long time.
Maintain the temperature: Fruits and vegetables like strawberries, green leafy vegetables and even mushrooms are best preserved by wrapping in newspaper and storing in a clean refrigerator at 40° F or below.
Don’t wet: Storing wet vegetables makes them prone to bacterial growth. Wipe vegetables with a dry cloth before storage.
Store tactfully: To store green chilies, remove their stems and store in a perforated box. Keep lemons fresh by rubbing a little bit coconut oil on them and placing in an open tray in the refrigerator. Place tomatoes in the chiller tray beneath the deep freeze.
Stacking Fruits: Prevent chopped fruits from discolouring by sprinkling lemon on them. To ripen apples faster store with green tomatoes. Bananas can be stored by peeling, mashing with a dash of lemon juice and freezing in air tight containers.
Keep different fruit separate: You should never keep fruits and vegetables, or different kinds of fruits together. The ethylene (the product responsible for the ripening of the fruit) can build and up cause premature aging of your fruit.
