EXPRESSING GRAVE concern over rising incidents of ragging, President Pratibha Patil has asked senior students to be responsible in dealing with their juniors.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the President said it was unfortunate that in several instances where the practice of ragging had grown to the level of torture. "Senior should make juniors feel at home in their new environment," she said.
The President's message came a day after top higher education regulatory bodies decided to have an anti-ragging regulation in place before the start of next academic session in July-August. Saying that such an irresponsible behaviour had a huge impact on new entrants, the President asked the regulatory bodies and state governments to enforce new regulations for strict enforcement of anti-ragging measures.
