THE TWO accused in the murder of a CCS University research scholar ‘surrendered’ in the Noida-based India TV studio on Wednesday night.
Later, the Noida senior superintendent of police arrested Neeraj Malik and Nitin Kasana from the studio.
A special team led by Civil Lines circle officer Sanjeev Vajpayee has been sent to Noida to bring the duo to Meerut.
The police came to know of their whereabouts when the channel telecast a conversation with Neeraj and Nitin.
Following senior officials’ directives, the Noida SSP rushed to the studio to take the duo into custody. They had allegedly gone to meet research scholar Sanjeev a few minutes before his murder on Tuesday.
The Meerut police were searching for the duo after they absconded during a raid and a shootout at Neeraj’s house in Jagriti Vihar locality on Tuesday evening when Special Operations Group constable Pravin Giri fell to the bullets of suspected assailants. Neeraj’s father Satvir, a lawyer, was killed in the exchange of fire.
Satvir’s death sparked an uproar among lawyers who accused the police of carrying out a revenge killing. The lawyers took out a procession on Wednesday afternoon and mounted pressure on the police to lodge an FIR against five policemen, including SOG constable Pradeep Yadav who allegedly shot Satvir dead.
Satvir’s wife has lodged an FIR against the police at the Medical College police station. Meanwhile, district magistrate Mukesh Kumar Meshram ordered a magisterial inquiry into the shootout that claimed the lives of constable Pradeep Giri and Satvir Malik.
Earlier on Wednesday, students ransacked the DM’s house. In view of the tension, the CCS University has been closed indefinitely.
