Private schools assure smooth conduct of exams in Valley

india Updated: Oct 02, 2010 12:25 IST

Heads of private educational institutes in the Valley have assured the state government that they would fully cooperate with the authorities for the scheduled conduct of annual examinations.

The representatives of the private schools gave the assurance during a meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed in Srinagar on Friday.

During the meeting, the minister advised them to keep laboratories and classrooms in their schools available for smooth and uninterrupted study of the students.

"It is enlightening that in all rural areas education has not suffered and students of these areas have been able to attend both government as well as private schools without any problem," Sayeed said.

He, however, admitted that in Srinagar city and some urban centres, the education of the students has suffered heavily.

The officials of the education department informed Sayeed that invigilators, assigned duties to conduct examinations, are dutifully performing their work.

The learning process in the Valley has been severely affected due to the ongoing unrest which began on June 11 after a teenage student, Tufail Ahmad Matoo, was killed when he was hit by a tear gas canister in downtown Srinagar.
