FACING criticism and opposition from various fronts, Higher and Technical Education minister Tukojirao Puar on Saturday directed that the decision of privatising government polytechnics in the State be deferred.

Following an advertisement in local newspapers and the website of Technical Education Department regarding proposal to privatise government polytechnics, several negative reactions were received from various quarters.

Students unions including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, employees’ organisations and academicians expressed concern over the decision and also demanded immediate rollback of the decision.

An official release said in view of such reactions, a decision has been taken by Puar to defer the decision for a while. The minister said this decision is being taken in the larger interest of the State.

The release stated further that a detailed work plan would be prepared after consulting all sections concerned to bring about excellence in technical education. This would also ensure the State’s welfare, he added.
