Priyanka attacks Advani on Jaswant's claim

india Updated: Apr 24, 2009 21:36 IST

Priyanka Gandhi on Friday joined the band of Congress leaders in attacking senior BJP leader L K Advani in the wake of his party colleague Jaswant Singh's claim that Advani was not in agreement with release of jailed terrorists at the time of Kandhar plane hijack.

"In the thick of elections, all this talk started appearing like he was not in knolwedge of the decision to release terrorists and he was not told about it. A strong leader is one who takes responsibility for even his mistakes," Priyanka told reporters in Unchahar when asked to comment on Singh's statement.

"What kind of a leader he is that he does not want to take responsibility? After all, the incident took place when he was the Home Minister. So, now he will not take even the responsibility," Priyanka earlier told PTI this morning alleging Advani is changing stand after pressure was built up over the issue.

She also termed Singh's statement nothing more than "political talks" aimed at serving political interests of BJP. "BJP is trying to distance itself from the issue," she said.

Asked to comment on BJP leader Narendra Modi's reported statement that white skin people in Delhi are exporting the country's wheat to foreign countries, Priyanka said" who these white people are.... Ask him?"
