Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra targeted her adversaries on Friday for stooping to the level of distributing dirty campaign material about her family.

Addressing a meeting in Amethi’s Shahgarh while campaigning for her brother and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, she said, “Some people are throwing these books in the villages at midnight and running away. These books have such (dirty) content. They are cowards, they can’t even distribute their books directly.”

Priyanka did not name the BJP or its leaders, but her target was obvious.

“If you want to say something, say it directly. Say it before everybody. Why do you run away after throwing the booklets at midnight?” she said.

Priyanka refused to elaborate on the matter. Two of the booklets she was referring to — “Sonia ki barbarta va saajish” and “Rahul ki Ravan Lila” — have articles written purportedly by senior BJP leader Dr Subramaniam Swamy.

The sub-heads include “Sonia dwara bharat ki loot” (Sonia’s loot in India) and “Sonia ka ghotala raj” which lists 22 major scams. The second 16-page booklet, called “Rahul ki Rawanlila”, has articles titled “Rahul ki asliyat (The real Rahul)” and “Kaun hai Rahul Gandhi” (Who is Rahul Gandhi).

Later, addressing a series of meetings, Priyanka said her family has been associated with Amethi for decades and they have always been there to work for the people. And the people of Amethi have the capacity to identify those who spread lies about her family.

‘Priyanka has pushed Rahul out of the frame’

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader and the party candidate from Amritsar, Arun Jaitley Friday took on Priyanka Gandhi and said that by using impolite language against Narendra Modi she has succeeded in “robbing the brother from being in the limelight” and pushed him “out of the frame. “Attack Modi was the strategy but ‘dilute Rahul’ is the consequence,” Jaitley remarked.
