Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said that the Congress is going away from people and it will need to have to connect with the masses. It will have to raise the its voice for the people across the countrym she added.
Gandhi, who was on in Rae Bareli on Friday, also gave indications of revamping the party organisation in the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Although Sonia won the seat with a huge margin, a revamp is being considered to gear up the party organisation for 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections,” said a party leader.
“Priyanka met nearly 700 party workers and 400 locals in the past two days. She has received complaints of non-performance of some of the Congress functionaries and gave us indications of action against them and an organisational reshuffle,” said the leader.
According to the party workers, Gandhi asked them to protest against anti-people policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and theAkhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh.
Congress workers were also asked to hold protests during January and February at the tehsils on issues like shortage of fertiliser, power and water.
The protest over the issues would reach the district headquarters in March, they said.
Congress would launch an agitation in favour of farmers in May raising the issue of support price of wheat and hold street protests in June against the “unfulfilled promises” of Modi government.
“Priyanka will be visiting the constituency again probably next month,” a party leader said.
