A delegation of pro-LTTE Tamil MPs of Sri Lanka, who failed to get an appointment with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a couple of months ago, met him on Friday.
The five MPs, led by R Sampathan, who had come to Delhi three months ago at the initiative of MDMK leader Vaiko, had to rest content with a meeting with National Security Adviser MK Narayanan then. Today, Narayanan and Foreign Secretary Shivshanker Menon were present with the Prime Minister.
Sampanthan later told reporters that they impressed upon the Prime Minister the "pathetic and deplorable" condition of Tamil people in the island nation.
"The Tamil people are suffering without food, medicine and fuel and food is being used as a weapon. The situation is deteriorated by the day," he said, describing the meeting as "very successful".
