THE PIECE of land said to have been purchased by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan at Daulatpur village in Barabanki district is in the eye of a storm with UP Congress Committee member Aamir Haider demanding CBI inquiry in the land deal.
Talking to mediapersons on Thursday, Haider said Big B had tampered with land and revenue records to show that he was a farmer. To hide their wrong acts, Jaya Bachchan gave false information in the affidavit submitted with the nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election. Haider said he had also written to the President, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the Chief Election Commissioner to draw their attention to the wrong methods adopted by the Bachchans in the purchase of the land. Amitabh has planned to purchase agricultural land in Pune. “Only a farmer can purchase agricultural land in Maharashtra. To acquire the land Bachchan attached a certificate that he was a farmer and had land holding in Daulatpur village in Barabanki district”, he said.
But Bachchan forged the document to get the land registered in his name. The then DM had detected the fraud and ordered cancellation of the land deal. But he was transferred and the new DM passed the order for the registration of the land in the name of Amitabh, Haider said.
Raising a question mark over the purchase of land, Haider said if Amitabh had purchased the land in 1982-83, then his wife Jaya should have mentioned it in the affidavit submitted by her for Rajya Sabha election in 2004.
Again, Amitabh purchased two plots in the same village in April this year. Jaya did not mention these two plots in the affidavit submitted by her along with the nomination papers for Rajya Sabha election on June 1, he said. Why did Jaya conceal this fact? Why does a millionaire like Amitabh want to become a farmer? What benefit did he want to take after getting his name registered as a farmer? asked Haider.
“Jaya should quit Rajya Sabha,” Haider said. The CBI should inquire into all this and an FIR lodged against the Bachchans if forgery was detected, he added.
