LORD AYYAPPA Charitable Society celebrated ‘Makaravilakku’ on the occasion of Makar Sankranti at Lord Ayyappa and Ganesh Temple in Mahalaxmi Nagar on Sunday.

The religious procession of Lord Ayyappa with Thalapoli (Shobha Yatra) was carried out from SICA School premises, Vijaynagar. Attired in their traditional best, ladies and girls participated in the Shobha Yatra.

Ornamented elephants also accompanied the Shobha Yatra. The Yatra passed through Vijay Nagar, Sri Sathya Sai School Square, Bombay Hospital Square and Mahalaxmi Mandir before finally reaching Lord Ayyappa temple.

The mahaarti was held at the temple and this was followed by a cracker and firework show. A bhajan programme was held for the devotees.

The Ayyappa temple has been a prime centre of worship since its consecration in 1992. Here, all poojas and rituals are performed by Namboodri Brahmins strictly following the main Sabrimala temple.

A free eye check-up camp was also organised in the temple premises from 8.00 am onwards with the sponsorship of Narayan Opticians, Sukhliya.
