Procurement of forms continues on Day 2

After the previous day’s slow paced nomination process, the mood remained much the same on Friday at the Collectorate where the candidates and their supporters trickled in to get the nomination forms. There are 10 assembly segments in Doon this time. HT reports.

After the previous day’s slow paced nomination process, the mood remained much the same on Friday at the Collectorate where the candidates and their supporters trickled in to get the nomination forms. There are 10 assembly segments in Doon this time.

It is noteworthy to mention that nominations began on January 5 in the state and the last day for nominations is January 12. Scrutiny would be held on January 13 while the last date of withdrawal of candidature is January 16. The state of Uttarakhand would go to the polls on January 30.

On the first day, a single nomination was filed by an independent candidate in Yamkeshwar assembly segment of Pauri. The state capital Dehradun had seen the procurement of 32 forms by various candidates with not a single nomination on Thursday. No nomination was filed in Doon on Friday also while former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’s lawyer RS Raghav reached the collectorate premises in the afternoon to seek permission from the returning officer for holding a meeting in the Doiwala segment. Dressed in white, Congress leaders Manish Nagpal and Ram Kumar Walia reached the Collectorate premises, along with a handful of their supporters, and took away the forms. Independent candidate from the Raipur seat MM Lakhera also took the nomination form. BSP candidate Manoj Sharma who was dressed in white pant and shirt reached the collectorate and took the nomination form for the Mussoorie assembly segment.

Others who took the form today included MLA Ganesh Joshi, Hema Bora of Samajwadi Party, Bir Singh Rawat, Bharat Bhushan Kaushal, Mohammad Sattar, Surendra Dobriyal, Pankaj Chhetri and CM Aswal, SP Singh and Shamsher Singh Bisht.
