india Updated: Sep 29, 2006 18:59 IST

A local court on Friday extended till October 13 the judicial custody of six ABVP leaders, including its state president Shashi Ranjan Singh Akela and Organising Secretary Vimal Tomar, who were arrested on the charge of murdering Madhav College Professor HS Sabharwal last month.

Judicial Magistrate RC Madia, who had earlier remanded them till Friday, extended the remand by 14 days.

Other ABVP leaders on remand include Hemant Dube, Pankaj Mishra, Sudhir Yadav and Vimal Rajoria.

The CID had been entrusted with the investigation into the 'murder' of Prof Sabharwal during violence after the postponement of students union elections on August 26.

Two other cases were registered for humiliating and blackening the face of Prof ML Nath and for rioting. A total of 38 people, including 13 of the ABVP and 25 of the NSUI, had been arrested in this connection.
