In yet another case of property fraud, the city police have registered a complaint against four persons for allegedly cheating an NRI woman by using fake documents.

The accused have been identified as Davender Kumar, Naveen Gambhir, Davender Kumar, Deshraj.

Complainant Amita Mittal and her husband Brij Kumar Mittal, who stay in the USA, had paid lakhs of rupees to the accused for the registration of a plot in Sector 56, police said.

The accused had shown some plot-related documents to her, after which Amita paid the advance for registration of the plot.

After receiving the amount, the culprits were untraceable and the couple could not contact them despite repeated attempts. This forced the couple to lodge a police complaint.

“We have received the complaint and matter is being investigated. The complaint has been transferred to economic offences wing (EOW),” said a police official, requesting not to be named.

Such incidents, involving NRIs, are on the rise in Gurgaon. Miscreants have given up the routine crime and are now focusing on selling properties to NRIs or outsiders.

“We have received numerous complaints where culprits tried to sell a property posing as its owner. The buyer needs to be cautious while purchasing a property. With the escalating prices, a vacant property is vulnerable. Gangs target such people as they don’t come often to check their property,” said a police officer.

On Saturday, an FIR was lodged against five persons in a land fraud case. Ishwari Devi, a resident of New Colony, alleged that her plot was illegally grabbed by the accused.
