Doda Development Front held a protest dharna against the government as well as district administration once again on Thursday over their long pending demands in the Doda district of the Chenab valley region.

The members of the Front raised slogans against the higher authorities among the administration. They said while on one hand, the government was making tall claims that backward areas of the state like the Chenab valley region were on the priority list of the present government, on the other hand, the government had turned a deaf ear to genuine demands.

Members said the students wanted the university campus to be commissioned to pursue higher education. According to sources, campus had been inaugurated several times with ministers and university authorities making several announcements but all in vain. Students have also protested various times for their demands to be met.

The speakers at the protest said there were other demands of the people of Doda Bhaderwah, Thathri Gondho and Kishtwar like the upkeep of the district hospital and other emergency hospitals which were always facing acute shortage of staff and lack of necessary machinery in working condition. Demands were also raised for establishment of administrative division and high court bench to tighten the administration and provide solace to the public.

Alleging that the attitude of the government indicated it was not people friendly, speakers at the protest said the government had failed to implement its own orders. For instance, DIG Police was shifted to Doda in 2006 but till date, he is functioning from Batote while the building for the DIG office is under construction since the past four years but has not been completed yet. The Front demanded immediate shifting of the DIG to Doda.

Members of the Front also criticised the consumer affair department for not making available standard ration on stipulated weightage. They alleged that one kg less of Atta and Rice each was being sold by the department which was making a fortune for itself.

They also blamed the municipality for failing to keep the town clean nd providing drinking water.the Front alleged that resentment was brewing among people of the region against the present government as nothing was being done for the area.
