Jolting again Pune’s image as one of country’s hottest and safest destinations for young executives, a 22-year-old woman working for the IBM call centre was allegedly gangraped by the company car driver and his friends on August 7 night. The police said the girl was taken to secluded Bhekrainagar in Hadapsar on the Pune-Solapur Road on her way back to a working women’s hostel in Hadapsar and raped.

IBM officials were not available for comment.

In a similar case a few months ago, an unmarried Business Process Outsourcing employee was gangraped by a company cab driver who used to transport her daily. The Pune police had then stepped up monitoring of cars involved in transporting women.

The police said the girl told her fiance about the incident on Friday who took her to a private hospital and filed a police complaint alleging gangrape. She was still unconsciousness and the police were yet to record her statement. The medical examination would be done after she regains consciousness, the police said.

Loni Kalbhor Police have registered a case of rape against unknown persons under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“We’re probing every angle and will come out with evidence soon,” said District Superintendent of Police Ravindra Kadam, confirming the case.
