A traffic cop, dragged by a car driven by a drunk man, finally managed to book the traffic violator in a dramatic chase on an arterial road here.
When a car did not move even after getting a green signal at Deccan Gymkhana area on Monday, Santosh Wadekar, the traffic policeman on duty, went near the vehicle to find out what was wrong. Just then, the driver started the car even as Wadekar hung on to the door to stop it, police said on Tuesday.
The driver then dragged the cop stuck to the speeding car in a precarious condition for a distance and then applied brakes in a sudden movement, flooring Wadekar on the road.
The bruised cop hailed a motorcyclist and chased the car, which escaped again. Wadekar then engaged two rickshaw drivers to tail the offender and block his way but that bid too failed before the vehicle finally came to a halt after dashing against a Maruti at a traffic island.
The 30-year-old driver Eknath Pawar, whose breath analyser test confirmed his inebriated state, was arrested with three occupants of the car from which liquor bottles were recovered.
