After a week, Pune saw a whiff of normalcy. No fresh swine flu death was reported in the city while 11 new positive cases of H1N1 were reported on Friday, taking the total count 407.

Of the 15 people who were said to have died of swine flu, three — nine-month-old Ritvik Kamble, Gautam Shelar (48) and Bharati Goyal (75) — tested negative for the flu.

On Friday, one patient was admitted to Sassoon’s Intensive Care Unit while the condition of other three already undergoing treatment there improved.

Elsewhere in the city, 181 patients are being treated in various hospitals.

Health authorities termed the situation as “improving”.

“I can say there is no bad news today,” said Sassoon Hospital’s Dean Arun Jamkar.

“After speaking to doctors and various authorities, I can see the situation under control,” said Pune District Collector Chandrakant Dalvi.

Panic levels among the public dropped as various screening centres saw fewer patients. Till now there have been 99,440 — around 3 per cent of the city’s 35 lakh population who have been screened.

“We have seen almost 75 per cent reduction in patients coming to Sassoon. This could be due to the fear among patients, who think that they could contract swine flu,” said Pandurang Pawar, resident medical officer of Sassoon Hospital.
