Three rape reports shamed Ludhiana on International Women’s Day. A hotel worker and a minor were allegedly gangraped on Sunday, while report of another woman being assaulted on the pretext of marriage surfaced in the Punjab city.

Around 1:15 am, an employee of a five-star hotel was allegedly abducted from near her workplace.

The woman was walking to her house when three men in a Maruti 800 pulled her into the car and took her to a secluded place where two of the men raped her and provoked the third to molest her. The three accused later dropped her off at Rajguru Nagar.

The victim, who has been working in the city for the last 18 months, told the police that the accused spoke in accented Hindi of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, and that two of them called each other Monu and Vicky. Friends of the woman lodged a case at the Sadar police station and took her to a civil hospital for medical examination.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (city-3) Paramjit Pannu said security cameras had captured images of the car.

“They covered the car’s registration number with black paint,” he said. A hotel spokesperson said the organisation would work with the police and the administration to ensure that the employee got justice. “We will guard her identity and give full safety and security to our woman employees,” the spokesperson added.

The victim spoke of her fears of the impact of the incident on her parents — who she said were reluctant to let her leave her village to work. She pleaded with her colleagues not to inform her parents. “I worked so that my parents would be proud of me. The incident has shattered me. My parents will die of shame when they find out. No family in my village will send its daughters out,” she said.

“Those rapists bit me. I pleaded with them repeatedly to let me go, but they did not,” she said

In another incident, four men allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in a vacant house near Dairy Complex here on Holi. Punjab agricultural police have registered a case against accused Bobby, Rohit, Kuldeep and Vicky, all from Haibowal Kalan. Assistant subinspector Major Singh said a hunt was on for the accused.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Karamjit Singh, 22, of Tibba Road, accused on Saturday of raping an 18-year-old woman on the pretext of marriage. The Basti Jodhewal police said the man had been the victim’s neighbour and had ditched her being intimate with her.
