The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary MP Pandove, also the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) joint secretary, confirmed on Thursday that Punjab off-spinner Rajesh Sharma has been reported by umpires for a suspect action in the current season.
“Sharma has been advised to correct his action, though he hasn't been called by the umpires in a match yet,” Pandove told the Hindustan Times from New Delhi on Thursday.
Pandove said Sharma will continue to play and that his action will be corrected when the season is over. “He was reported by the umpires a few days ago and he has continued playing after that,” said Pandove. The 22-year-old Sharma has picked 76 wickets from 25 first-class matches since his debut in 2002-03. His career-best of six for 143 came in the last Ranji Trophy match he played against Maharashtra at Kolhapur (December 17-20). He was reported for a suspect action while bowling short-pitched deliveries and wrong ones in this match.
It is reliably learnt that Sharma was also reported after the Duleep Trophy final against Sri Lanka A, in which he took nine wickets. The BCCI had written to the PCA about Sharma's suspect action. Sharma topped bowling charts in Duleep Trophy with 17 wickets from three games.
