Punjab government has decided to prepare a comprehensive master plan for 40 towns in the state to ensure planned and gregulated urban development.

The decision was taken at a meeting of Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Badal said the master plan would be completed within 18 months.

The chief minister said the sole objective of preparing the master plan was to check the haphazard and unregulated growth in these towns, according to an official release.

He asked the housing and Urban Development departments to seek help from renowned architects in preparing the master plan.

While finalising the master plan you should keep in mind the possible infrastructural requirements of at least 75 to 100 years in these cities, he said.
