Lt-Col Shrikant Prasad Purohit might not be the only serving army officer associated with Abhinav Bharat.
Purohit’s conversations with other members found from the laptop of self-styled Shankaracharya Dayanand Pandey reveals the name of a serving major and two colonels — one of whom retired almost at the same time when the organisation was formed in 2005.
Purohit discusses to form a Hindu and Oriental Nations Union with allies in Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan, Japan and Korea, and states names of three officers who are already active in the organisation.
“Major Parag Modak karke jo vyakti hein who abhi apna International office sambhalta hein. (The person named Major Parag Modak handles our international office.) Mail ka Net pe bait ke chat karta hein jo aaya tha hamare meeting mein Pune mein. (He chats on the net. Was present in our meeting at Pune.),” states Purohit.
The two other persons mentioned by Purohit are Colonel Raikar and Colonel Hasmukh Patel.
Col Patel was posted at the Army Liasion Unit in Pune at around the same time as Purohit.
Col Patel was the commanding officer of the unit and Purohit used to report to him. But Patel resigned from the army around 2006.
But the chargesheet does not have their names as a witness or accused. The only other serving officer who figures in conversation with Purohit, and took part in one of the meeting, Colonel Bapaditya Dhar of Parachute regiment at Panchmarhi, has been made a witness in the case.
ATS sources said the probe was on and a supplementary chargesheet could be filed into the Malegaon blast case soon.
