PRIVATE engineering colleges in the State are proposing to hold their own entrance exams on May 27. The Association of Professional Institutes on Monday put forth a proposal in this regard before the Judge’s Committee for Monitoring of Admission Process in Private Professional Colleges.

Representatives of the private engineering colleges are proposing to the hold the exams through a private external agency under the association’s supervision at about 20 centres in the State and outside. The number of centre outsides would be eight, association sources told Hindustan Times.

However, the Judge’s Committee chaired by Justice Chandresh Bhushan did not find the proposal adequate and has asked the association to come up with a more detailed proposal within this week. The next meeting of the committee has been convened on February 12 to decide on the matter.

“We have asked them to give more details about how they exactly propose to go about the exams. We expect them to put forth the detailed proposal within this week,” Justice Bhushan told Hindustan Times.

The association is proposing to hold the private entrance exams as per the provision in the Supreme Court judgment of August 12, 2005. Last year the Private Medical and Dental Association had conducted its own entrance exam under the supervision of the Judge’s Committee although the exam got mired into controversy and the case went up to the Supreme Court.

The private engineering colleges and other professional colleges had however conducted admissions last year through the entrance exams conducted by the State Government. This year, the engineering colleges have decided to go in for their own entrance exams.
