We are still getting over the win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. But we cannot celebrate for long because we have a game today against the Pune Warriors. This is one of the challengers of the IPL, you play one day and then play again with a day’s gap.
We are happy with what happened on Thursday night. Obviously, Bangalore will not be happy with the result. But in the end, it was a thrilling contest which would have wowed fans all over.
Depth in batting
Chasing down over 200 was always going to be tough and rightly so. We have great batting depth and the belief that we can put that depth to test at critical moments. The key point was that we had faith in ourselves and the resources we possess. We played without inhibition and that made a huge difference. We are lucky to have all-rounders of the ability of Albie Morkel, Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja batting in the middle order.
They give the captain a lot of options. Albie, Jadeja and even Badrinath, who did not bat, came in late to turn the game around for us. The win was important because we now have two wins from four games. If we had won just one from four games, there would have some kind of panic and uneasiness.
Next up is the challenge of the Pune Warriors. They have made some good buys and I expect them to be a tough opposition. The pitch at Pune looks similar to Chepauk. It is a new track, but we have the batting power to exploit any conditions.
