A very happy Republic Day to you. How do you plan to celebrate this day?
Celebrate? After having had to travel 2,000 km more around diversions to reach work while rehearsals have been on? You have a weird sense of occasion.
Oh come on, don’t you enjoy all the pomp and pageantry? The children dancing down Rajpath, the floats…?
Please stop this drivel. Rounding up poor children to shiver down the parade route! And having to see the same old stunts every year?
Don’t you have any sense of patriotism? Don’t your spirits lift when you see those magnificent camels, horses and elephants walk past majestically?
Add a tiger and few leopards and we could have a right regular zoo. No, I think it is daft to wake up at the crack of dawn and rush to Rajpath in the freezing cold to see a couple of camels.
I love the running commentary on our achievements, the presidential salute, the awe in the chief guest’s eyes. Okay, at least tell me your heart swells with pride when you see the daredevil flypast formations.
My stomach growls with hunger instead, since you can’t sneak a morsel of food in! My idea of fun would be to throw moongphalli shells all over the place, pass loud comments and leave halfway through.
Don’t say: We are like that only.
Do say: Same time, same place, next year.
