WITH CAMPAIGNING coming to a close today in the prestigious Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency, the stage is set for the by-poll on May 8.

As Rahul Gandhi left the constituency, his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadera took over.

She appreciated the work done by her brother during his nearly 10-day election campaign in Rae Bareli. “My brother conducted the campaign this time. So ensure a larger victory margin,” said Priyanka while urging Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s poll agents to ensure better poll management.

This was the first meeting of Priyanka with poll agents. Her appeal was enough to enthuse them.

Priyanka also gave the workers tips of election management. Later she went to Rae Bareli Sadar assembly segment of the Lok Sabha constituency and met poll agents there. Priyanka asked them to examine voting machine before commencement of polling.

Priyanka also gave some phone numbers to the polling agents, asking them to inform the party’s public relations office if they had any complaints.

She also distributed kits to some agents.

Rahul and Robert Vadera also distributed election kits at some places. Later Rahul, along with Captain Satish Sharma, left the constituency in view of the Election Commission’s orders asking the candidates to ensure that all those given state security leave the constituency after closing of campaigning.

Besides Rahul, ministers of the Mulayam Singh government and former BJP leader Uma Bharati also left the constituency.
