Rahul Gandhi meets kin of CRPF jawan killed in Dantewada

india Updated: May 12, 2010 13:41 IST

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday visited the house of a CRPF jawan who was among the 76 security personnel killed in the Maoist attack in Dantewada in April and assured the family of full support from the Central government.

During his hour-long stay at the house situated in Manikpura village, Rahul personally enquired about the difficulties being faced by the family of the slain jawan Vijay Yadav.

The AICC General Secretary was visibly upset when Yadav's wife Savitri Devi told him that they have not got the full compensation amount announced after her husband's death.

Gandhi, who represents Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, assured them that he will personally look into the matter.
When the slain jawan's parents were asked by Gandhi if they would allow their second son to join the army, "yes" was their
prompt reply.

The CRPF had provided a job to Devi, who was unwilling to take it up and instead asked the force to give it to her brother-in-law.

Gandhi directed his assistant K L Sharma to take note of the matter and told the family that appropriate action will be taken.

Later, Gandhi visited the family of late Congress worker Rajjan Shukla, who was shot dead in Juhipur village on May 4 when he was returning home.

It is alleged that Shukla was shot dead by BSP activists. Gandhi told the deceased worker's father that a probe will be conducted in the incident and the guilty will be punished.

Yesterday, Gandhi and Bill Gates, Microsoft Chairman, visited Amethi, where the world's richest man showed keen interest in the ongoing development projects and promised all help to turn the area into an IT hub.
