Investigations into the Sheena Bora murder on Wednesday morning began in earnest when Rahul Mukerjea, younger son of former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea, arrived at Khar police station on Thursday.

Rahul was questioned for almost 12 hours, police officials said, and gave them all the details of his relationship with Sheena, and his turbulent relationship with step-mother Indrani.

According to a source, Rahul told police that he had suspected something amiss right from April 24, 2012 - the day Sheena was murdered. That day, he received a message from Sheena's phone stating their relationship was over. Rahul also told police that he had asked Indrani for Sheena's contact details in the US as recently as 2014. This "irritated" Indrani, who refused to give him any details, the police said.

Rahul also gave the police specific details of when he dropped Sheena to a particular spot near National College in Bandra, from where she is believed to have been kidnapped, and said Sheena had told him about her unwillingness to meet her mother. Rahul also told police that Sheena had informed him that Indrani was her biological mother, and had spoken of her alienation after coming to Mumbai.

The police took Rahul to the exact location in Bandra to corroborate the call records of all the three accused -Indrani, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, and driver Shyam Manav Manohar Rai.

According to Rahul, Sheena's passport was with him in 2012, so there was no way she could have gone to the US, as Indrani had told him.

Meanwhile, statements of Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) officials will also be recorded to corroborate the leave application and resignation letter sent from Sheena's phone. "Their statements will be recorded to prove that Indrani had, for close to a year, misused Sheena's phone after killing her on April 24, 2012," said an officer, who did not wish to be named.
