A day after Mulayam Singh Yadav talked about pulling out from the UPA government, Congress’s newly appointed vice-president Rahul Gandhi lashed at Akhilesh Yadav’s SP government in Amethi on Thursday.

On the first visit to his Lok Sabha constituency after his elevation, Gandhi said, “UP is not developing the way it should be. The youth are not getting jobs as the state government’s functioning is lax.”

He added development funds were not reaching the grassroots level due to corruption. Rahul addressed 24 public meetings and made more than 50 stops along the way in Tiloi and Jagdishpur assembly segments.

“I know you are not getting any help from the state government. They made tall promises, but no jobs have been created for the youth. There is no scarcity of funds, the central government sends a large chunk of funds to UP, but they do not reach you because of corruption in the bureaucracy or because of contractors taking away all the money,” said Rahul to a thunderous applause at a roadside meeting in Tiloi assembly segment.

All the way from the Fursatganj airport, roads were decked up, live bands played and party workers beat dhols and nagaras as fire crackers lit the sky for the ‘homecoming’ of their leader.
