Rahul Mahajan can shift to Mumbai: Court

india Updated: Jul 24, 2006 22:20 IST

A special court on Monday allowed a revised plea by Rahul Mahajan, son of slain Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan and charged in a drug abuse case, to shift to Mumbai after July 31.

The special court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) cases had on July 10 allowed Mahajan to shift to Mumbai but only after the Delhi Police conducted a brain-mapping test on him.

Police had fixed July 26-27 for conducting the test on him at a forensic laboratory in Bangalore.

However, Mahajan moved the Delhi High Court, which stayed the special court order.

In view of the stay, the case was posted on August 18 for further hearing, Special Judge SN Gupta said after allowing Mahajan's plea to shift to Mumbai.

Rahul, 31, faces charges under the NDPS Act after he was admitted to a city hospital following an alleged case of drug abuse.

He was shifting back to Mumbai, as the Mahajan family was vacating the official residence allotted to late Pramod Mahajan.
