Keeping securitymen on their toes, Congress star campaigner Rahul Gandhi stopped his vehicle and mingled with the crowd during electioneering in Belangir on Wednesday.

Rahul, who spent the night in Balangir after addressing poll rallies in Western Orissa, stopped his vehicle and came out to interact with people, including his admirers, while leaving the district.

The AICC General Secretary shook hands and spoke briefly to a large number of people who had lined up on both sides of the road, even as security personnel kept a close watch.

Eager to have a glimpse of the young Congress leader, people from different strata of society and all age groups had gathered here after coming to know that Rahul had ventured out of the dak bungalow late on Tuesday night.

Rahul had been spotted near the bus stand along with some securitymen and Congress workers.

Denying that there was any securuty lapse, Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Arora, told reporters that police personnel were vigilant when Rahul interacted with people.

It is quite normal for political leaders to mingle with people, he said.
