Rahul to visit Left-ruled Kerala

india Updated: Oct 06, 2009 17:20 IST

Seeking to consolidate the gains made by Congress in the Left-ruled Kerala in the Lok Sabha polls, AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is visiting the state tomorrow to interact with party leaders.

His one-day visit to the state assumes significance as bypolls to three assembly seats are slated for November 7. The Congress in the state will take it as an opportunity to deal another blow to the CPI(M)-led LDF.

The LDF, after the stunning defeat in the Lok Sabha polls, is expected to make all efforts to prove a point or two by wresting at least one of the three seats held by Congress.

During the visit, Gandhi's focus would be on attracting youths to the party, reviewing the membership drive of Youth Congress and the elections to the party's student wing KSU.

Congress sources here said Gandhi's visit would impart a greater momentum to the party's campaign for the bye-election from Ernakulam, Kannur and Alappuzha.

The seats of Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Kannur fell vacant due to the election of K V Thomas, K C Venugopal and K Sudhakaran to Lok Sabha.
