Navi Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police RD Shinde has been sent on compulsory leave for alleged dereliction of duty following recent raids at a few places in Navi Mumbai where a large flesh-trade racket was unearthed.

A top police official told PTI that Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil was furious over Shinde for turning a blind eye to proliferation of immoral activities despite several complaints from NGOs and others.

In raids conducted last week, police had rescued over 40 girls including minors from various bars.
