Raigarh: First-year MBBS student hangs self

A 19-year-old medical student allegedly committed suicide by hanging in his hostel room, police said on Sunday.
The victim, who lived in Varanasi, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his hostel room last evening, Raigarh superintendent of police Rahul Bhagat said.
The first-year MBBS student at Late Lakhiram Agrawal Memorial Medical College was staying at the college hostel for last one month, he said.
The victim returned to college on October 31 after Diwali break. As per preliminary investigation, he did not attend class on Saturday due to some health problem, Bhagat said.
When he did not respond to repeated knocking on the door, his friends informed the college management, he added. "Later, the institute authorities apprised police following which cops rushed to the hostel and found his body hanging from the ceiling fan," he said.
No suicide note was recovered from the spot, the SP said adding that the investigation was on to ascertain reason which prompted him to take extreme step.
A case has been registered in this regard and further probe is on, the SP added.
