By the end of this year, commuting on the railway station road in Old City may become congestion free, once the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) completes the widening of roads project. The widening work will take place on 2-km stretch between Sector 4 & 7 chowk and railway station. At least, one metre on either side of the road will be widened.
It would include construction of three pedestrians' pathways as well. Currently, the road is one-way with no divider and no path for pedestrians.
Thought the project is at initial stage, but the news of widening has brought a ray of hope for thousands of old Gurgaon residents, who regularly struggle through traffic jams.
"The corporation should have widened this road in last year's budget as the traffic volume has increased many times on this road," said Daljit Singh Khokhar, a Sector 7 resident.
The commuting time from Sectors 4 and 7 and other areas from this chowk would reduce to 20 minutes.
"The estimate is nearly complete and it soon would be sent to Chandigarh for final approval. And as soon as we get the approval, work would begin shortly so that we can finish the project by end of the year," said a senior MCG official.
The railway station road is a commercial stretch in MCG area and its widening would boost commercial business.
