Rains lashed most parts of north India on Tuesday as icy winds swept the region, though minimum temperatures hovered slightly above normal in several areas.

Delhiites witnessed a chilly morning with 4.8 millimetres of rains lashing the city causing a sudden decline in temperatures, throwing traffic out of gear. The maximum was recorded at 14.6 degree Celsius, seven notches below the normal and minimum temperature was recorded at 10.2 degree Celsius, three notches above normal.

The MET Department has said a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) would affect Jammu and Kashmir from today which could cause rainfall or snowfall at few places in the state.

The minimum temperature in the Kashmir Valley was recorded at 10.2 degree Celsius, three notches above the normal, while there was a slight respite from cold wave in the Valley and Ladakh region as minimum temperature increased in most parts.

Overnight rains also lashed parts of Rajasthan throwing life out of gear for locals even as Mount Abu, the sole hill station in the state, was the coldest at 3.6 degrees Celsius.

Unconfirmed reports said three persons, including a 8-year-old girl, died due to cold in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadoi district in the past 24 hours.

Minimum temperature in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today rose by up to four notches above normal even as fog and mist prevailed in the region.

The minimum temperature hovered between one to four degrees Celsius above normal in most parts of the region.

Intense cold wave continued unabated in Himachal Pradesh as the maximum day temperature dropped by three to five degrees, icy winds swept the region and sky remained heavily overcast.

Shimla and its surrounding areas had traces of rains and snowflakes even as local MeT office issued fresh warning of heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places during the next 24 hours and rains and snow at many places.
