Rains claim six lives in north Gujarat

Six persons including a woman and three girls died in different incidents following heavy rains in north Gujarat.

Four children, including three girls, drowned in a pond at Bural village in Banaskantha district while a woman was killed in wall collapse due to heavy rains and a man was drowned in rainwater in Sami town of the district, police said.

The bodies of four children were fished out of a pond today, police said, adding that the children were missing from yesterday after they went out to graze their animals.

They drowned in the village pond while they were bathing in it, police said.

They were identified as Ranjeetsinh Solanki (12), Vilasba Solanki (10), Jobanba Solanki (14) and Sangeeta Solanki (12), police said.

As many as 15 mud houses collapsed in Ved village in Patan district in which two persons were injured.

Vav Taluka in Banaskantha received highest 192 mm rainfall followed by 125 mm in Becharaji in Mehsana District.

Modasa in Sabarkantha recorded 97 mm of rainfall within eight hours, the district officials said.
