IT WAS pure agony for rail passengers today with a number of trains running late due to incessant rains in Gujarat, Maharashtra and western Madhya Pradesh. Not only was the arrival of trains affected, but departure of certain trains was also delayed as the whole schedule went haywire.
The 2961 Avantika Exp which was to return from Baroda (where it was halted yesterday due to floods in Gujarat) arrived nine hours late at 7.15 pm. The 2416 Nizamuddin-Indore Express arrived after a delay of 6.25 hours, 9309 Shanti Express was late by 3.30 hours, Malwa Express arrived 7.30 hours late, and Narmada Express was delayed by 5.30 hours.
The 2962 Mumbai-bound Avantika Express that was scheduled to depart at 3:50 pm left after a delay of nearly 4 hours at 7.30 pm. Also, the 2415 Indore-Nizamuddin Intercity left after a delay of over 2 hours at 6:40 pm.Heavy rains in the Ujjain division disrupted trains on Ujjain-Indore-Bhopal route.
Many trains on this route were halted midway and some of the trains were cancelled. Heavy rains also hit the rail traffic on the Ratlam route.
The only silver lining of the dark clouds was that rail traffic at Surat-Udhna block reopened this morning with the water level coming down in the region.
