DHANTERAS SHOPPING spree took a beating as thunder squall and sharp showers hit the State capital and other parts of the State on Thursday evening.
Shoppers, out in the market to pack their bags with things of their choice, faced a tough time. Shopkeepers, mainly those who had set shops in the open, had to scurry to protect their wares. Rains hit areas in Gwalior, Chambal and Rewa divisions under the influence of a western disturbance persisting over north-west MP and adjoining Uttar Pradesh. There were also reports of hailstorm from the Rewa division.
The met office has warned of hailstorm, thunder squall and rains for the entire state – mainly the Gwalior, Chambal, Rewa and Jabalpur divisions in the next 36 hours. Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre D P Dubey said the western disturbance is pulling in a lot of moisture and since the temperatures are not too high, hailstorm might be experienced. He said the weather would be clear by Diwali day.
On Thursday, the weather in capital changed abruptly late in the afternoon. The day was quite hot and sunny and saw a flurry of activity in the markets. By around 4.00 pm, the weather turned cloudy and thunderstorm followed soon. By around 6 pm thunder squall accompanied by heavy rains lashed the city and a steady drizzle continued till late in the evening.
