In a move that was heavily criticized by both Congress and AAP, the home ministry on Monday approved a Delhi government proposal to review the pay scale of the Delhi Administration Subordinate Service (DASS).
The pay scale has been revised from Rs 5,000-Rs 8,000 to Rs 5,500- Rs 9,000 benefitting both DASS and steno cadre, principal secretary of services department said, adding that the decision would be effective notionally from January 1, 1996 but arrears would be calculated from December 12, 2006.
According to officials, over 10,000 government staffers, many of whom had protested outside the Delhi secretariat demanding pay revision, would benefit.
The DASS and steno cadre employees hold positions such as superintendent, sub-registrars, VAT officers, head clerks and inspectors in public dealing offices like transport, trade and taxes and sub-registrar offices.
Several Congress and AAP leaders questioned the timing of the announcement, hours before the schedule for Delhi elections was released.
