THE CLEAN CHIT given to the Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother, PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav has irked Governor TV Rajeswar.
Taking strong exception to the statements, which were telecast on several TV channels, the Governor has sought a clarification on the issue from the Government.
In a letter written to the chief minister here on Thursday, Rajeswar has sought justification for the withdrawal of cases registered against SIMI chief.
He has also sought to know the reasons for the reported move of the government to withdraw certain other cases registered against SIMI office-bearers and its activists.
In the letter, the Governor has expressed concern over the chief minister and his brother giving a clean chit to the SIMI denying its involvement in the Mumbai bomb blasts, especially at a time when investigations were on and almost all the Central agencies had indicated SIMI’s involvement.
The Governor has also asked the chief minister to give a free hand to the police for investigating the role of SIMI in the blasts in which several people were killed.
Rajeswar has also sent a detailed report to the Centre on the statements of the chief minister and Shivpal Yadav defending the SIMI and the activities of the outfit in the state.
