Arch Shiv Sena rivals and former Sainiks - Revenue Minister Narayan Rane and Public Works Minister Chhagan Bhujbal - are among the prominent personalities invited for the wedding of city Mayor and Senaman Datta Dalvi's son Gaurav on Wednesday.
Governor of Maharashtra SM Krishna, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray, are among others who have been invited for the ceremony in Mulund.
Though Rane and Bhujbal, who split from the Sena earlier, got the invites, the hosts have allegedly not included another splinter leader Raj Thackeray in the guest list.
"Dalvi wants to avoid controversies ahead of the civic polls. He also doesn't want to receive a rap from the party bosses for inviting Raj," said a source close to the Mayor.
When contacted, Dalvi said the invitations were sent out as per protocol. "It's the wedding of a mayor's son, and as per protocol I have invited everyone from the governor to those in the government."
He said the invitations were given to 'individuals', and not to 'party leaders'. "One should not give it a political colour. After all, it's a family function."
However, Dalvi feigned ignorance about Raj Thackeray. "I am not aware whether Raj has been invited or not. I will check with the people engaged for distributing the wedding cards."
Shivers in Sena
There were strong rumours among the Sainiks till a few months ago, that Dalvi too would quit Sena and join the Rane camp. However, denying the allegations, Dalvi had then said that such rumours were spread by his own partymen as a conspiracy against him.
