Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel on Wednesday announced that he would soon take up the issue of renaming the Amritsar and Mohali international airports after Sri Guru Ram Dass ji and Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh with Prime Minister so that it could be cleared in the Cabinet.
Patel was in Amritsar on Wednesday at Rajasansi International Airport on the occasion of the inauguration of Integrated Terminal Building. Patel thanked Punjab Chief Minister Chief Minister Parkash Singh for extending full cooperation and support for acquisition of 206 acres of land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for its upgradation and modernization for Rajasansi Airport.
He assured Badal that it would soon be emerged as one of the best international airports not in the country but in the world. He also promised that he would soon restore all the cancelled international flights of Air India from Amritsar international airport.
He also underscored the need to make optimum use of international airport Amritsar not merely for transit of passengers but its services should be fully utilized by the progressive farmers and the industrialists to export their produce and products abroad to earn foreign exchange. He also assured that the 'No Objection Certificate' would be issued soon for setting up of an international airport near Ludhiana within a couple of days.
