Completing the delimitation process, the state government on Thursday notified the constitution of 723 new gram panchayats and 47 panchayat samitis in Rajasthan.
The notification was issued by the Panchayati Raj department.
In the delimitation process, the government has laid stress on constituting new gram panchayats and panchayat samitis’ in the desert and tribal areas.
The maximum number of gram panchayats has been constituted in Jodhpur with 128, followed by Barmer (109), Bikaner (71), Dungarpur (54), Alwar and Jaipur (42).
The most new panchayat samitis have been created in Barmer (9), followed by Jodhpur and Udaipur (6) and Dungarpur (5).
The state election department had asked the government to submit the list of panchayats and gram panchayats by November 5.
With the delimitation of 1423 gram panchayats, 723 new ones have been created. Similarly, 47 panchayat samitis have been created after delimitating 64.
Though panchayat delimitation is ideally done after every census, the last delimitation was conducted in 1992 based on the 1981 census, official sources said.
